Auto body repair & detailing: paint - uv damage, electric car buffer, rubbing compound

Question
Good morning!  I've got a 1976 MG which was repainted black in 1998.  Over the years the hood and trunk cover have sustained some ultraviolet damage streaking.  The paint is still good condition, no separation or flaking.

Is there a way to restore the deep dark black finish to the uv damaged areas?  The rest of the car (sides, fenders, etc.) is still dark and shiny, but the "streakiness" of the hood and trunk have me wondering if I can restore it with a rubbing compound (or some other product) by hand, or with my Sears electric car buffer.  Some guys have said it has to be done by a detailer; others say it's not too bad to do by hand here at home, but they don't know which technique or compound(s) work best.

Thanks.
Tom

Answer
Try using your buffer first with course grit compount then moving to a finer grit. But Im with the guys on this one take it to a detail shop. they know what they are doing and are less likely to burn through your fragile paint.
             Hope this helps
