Auto body repair & detailing: Chev Truck Cab corners, vertical pillar, new cab

Question
I am replacing the cab corners on my '91 Chev K1500. I've purchased replacement corners that go up about 16-18" on the truck. How would you recommend welding these where they meet at the top? Should I cut to fit and butt weld, or maybe tack a lip in behind for the new ones to sit on? Also, the bottom edge of the vertical pillar inside is rusted out up the first 2-3". Does this compromise structural integrity? Can I clean it up and leave it inside the new cab corners, or should this be cut out and metal replaced as well? (I'm "borrowing" welding services).

Any advice appreciated,
Ian

Answer
Aftermarket cab corners are whats called slip-overs. If you have a body moulding, under them is where i grind and overlap the inner and new panel. Slip them puppys over the old cab corners and weld them in. NO problem.
