Auto body repair & detailing: Rocker panel rust, mesh screening, rocker panel

Question
Hi,

I have a 1990 Honda civic that I am trying to saftey.  It has some rust under the drivers side door and I an using filler to fix it.  However, I have run into a problem.  There is a spot about 4" wide and I cannot get the filler to stay in the stop where it needs to.  I have tried mesh screening put it just falls off too.  Any advice on how to get the filler to stay where it is suppoed to?  Or, should I just take it in and get the body work done.

Thanks,
greg.

Answer
Hello Greg,
Try putting a plate on the area.
Grind the surrounding area then drill 1/8" holes and put plate on with rivets or flat screws over the bad area.  Grind the plate and apply the filler.  The filler will not stick to the plate unless you grind it first.
Thank you,
