Auto Parts: 98 blazer issues, short circuits, latch

Question
i have a 98 blazer and im having power lock issues..they started going crazy one day and locking and unlocking them selves..it was also unlocking my back hatch and my back window would open itself.  well i didnt realize the window was open and the locks didnt mess up for a few days, when i realized the window was open i closed it and for a few seconds the locks when crazy again...could it be the rear latch or the hatch button..im also having trouble with the 4x4 not going back into 2hi..and i was just wondering since the switches are above one another if a wire could be messing up all that stuff...thanks for any kind of help with this.  i dont want to spend too much to fix it cause i have already put a lot into this thing within the year i have owned it.  thanks again

Answer
You may not want to spend much to fix it, but it's not worth much unless you do.  Ordinarily I would suspect a relay when the windows act up.  Also when the 4WD acts up.  But not both.  The fact that those switches are right next to each other sure leads me to think that there's some kind of problem behind the dash.  You'll need to pull that apart and use a VOM to check all of the circuits.  My guess is that you will be able to find the problem just by looking at it.  Follow the wires back to the pass-through in the firewall, and on the other side to the relay box.  That firewall pass-through is a frequent site of short-circuits caused by water under the hood.
