Auto Parts: 1976 GMC 350 Vandura Motorhome, chevy van, flaming river

Question
I have a 1976 motorhome, the steering column is on its way out and I would like to replace the whole steering assembly (wheel to union).  Aren't many of these around so I was wondering if I could use the steering off another type of GM (say 1T cube van, etc).  If so what range of models?  thanks

Answer
If this is a forward-control model (P30), then any P-series steering column will work.  "Vandura" usually means a G-series chassis, with a nose like a normal Chevy van.  If this is the case, then a G-series column from 1/2 to 1 ton should be a direct replacement.  If you are worried about the quality of a used column (and there are plenty of good reasons to be worried), you can probably buy a brand-new one from Ididit or Flaming River.
