Auto Parts: Lexus ES 350 oil filter, doo dads, toyota dealer

Question
My 2007 Lexus ES 350 has had oil changes done either at a Lexus or Toyota dealer. I have just located Fram and Hastings oil filters on a web site for $7.45 and $4.80, respectively, and wonder if these inexpensive filters (each fits this vehicle) will do the job effectively.  Thanks.

Answer
Both of these companies make excellent filters.  They are every bit as good as the Toyota filter your dealer is using, regardless of what the dealer tells you.  That said, the biggest reason for buying a Lexus is the service.  They aren't better cars than their Toyota counterparts (the Camry, in your case), but they are much prettier and have more doo-dads as standard equipment.  So I would advise that, so long as your warranty is in effect, you continue to get all service done at the dealer.  Lexus has a brilliant satellite-linked service network that enables any dealer, anywhere in the country, to download your complete service records.  If you are traveling, or if you move, this could be very useful in speeding up repairs when there is a problem.
