Auto Parts: coolant temp sensor, vw cabriolet, coolant temp

Question
does the coolant temp sensor on a 1985 vw cabriolet control how the car idles. the idle control valve seems by all means to be functioning right. The car will not idle when it is cold but when it warms up it will idle but runs a little rich. Any help or info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
On these cars, there is an extra injector that helps start the car.  I have a feeling that the controller for the injection is firing that injector full time.  That will make it too rich for the idle speed motor to compensate.  Go ahead and replace the sensor, it's cheap.  Then, if it still acts up, check the extra injector to see if it is spraying fuel at some time other than when it is trying to start.  If it is, get someone who is familiar with these systems to look at the car.
