Auto Parts: battery, pcm, subaru
Questionhello
i have been told that when you replace a battery in a newer (1996-present) car you must drive it from 10 to 50 miles to reset the monitors before it will pass inspection... is this true? the car i am having an issue with is a 2001 subaru
AnswerThe possibility is there for the vehicle not to pass inspection, but not guaranteed you'll fail. Personally I wouldn't sweat it with your vehicle.
What they are telling you is that the vehicle's PCM needs to re-learn the environment it's in and driving characteristics. It will adapt to these based off the stock programming over a period of miles driven.
