Sounds like it's possible that the reverse actuator is sticking or the front pump is on it's way out. Both items will act the same. I would get under the vehicle and facing the back of the car on the side of the transmission will be a small round cap usually held on with a thin metal spring-clip similar to the style that was on OLD master cylinder caps. Pop the metal clip to the side and remove the cover (don't be laying underneath it as a small amount of trans fluid may spill out).

Pull the actuator straight out. Clean it with some type of FAST-DRY brake cleaner. ONLY use the FAST-DRY stuff and blow the assembly dry as soon as it is cleaned of any debris. Replace and warm the vehicle up. If you are still experiencing the problem, it is probably a cause of the front pump weakening. Unfortunately that is a terminal problem as the front pump cannot just be removed and fixed. It is an integral part of the transmission assembly and needs to be rebuild along with the rest of the unit if that is the path you choose.

Also, unfortunately the two transmissions may look the same, but the '90 has a TH440 (4T60) and the '94 has a 4T60E. If it would bolt to the engines bell housing (not sure if the 4.9 and the 4.5 had the same bell, but I doubt it), I'm sure it would function but your speedo would not function and neither would your ABS and any other system that uses the speed sensor(s).

The good news is that I'm sure I have a good, tested unit here that would fit your application. I'm sure I remember pulling one from a '95 a few months ago that was hit in the rear. The car had 87K on it and the driveline tested fine. I could lay that one into you for $900.00. That quote includes freight to you as well as a 30-day warranty. We will waive the $100.00 core charge if you are not located in Pennsylvania and because you reached me through this system, we also agree to a 25% part discount as well as. So, $600.00 laid-in to your mechanic or shop (can't ship via freight to residential addresses). Sometimes it pays to ask questions.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
