Auto Parts: four wheel wont lock, position shifts, battery tray

Question
got a 01 chev 2500 HD   with Duranax
when shifted into 4x4 high OR 4x4 low, it only grinds but wont lock into position.  shifts back into 2x4 with no problems.

Answer
Hi Dennis,

I believe the actuator on that system is vacuum and located under the battery tray. This is most likely where you will locate the problem you are experiencing. The vacuum diaphragm is probably bad and not fully engaging the axle lock.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.
