Auto Parts: Battery Question, lincoln mark viii, battery warranty

Question
Hello, I am a navy wife who's husband is coming home from a six month deployment in a matter of days and I haven't done the best job taking care of his 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII.  He asked that I start it every few weeks and I kind of forgot for a few months. So now it won't start obviously, I jump started it with my car, but it didn't hold the charge.  The battery was purchased a year ago, do I need to buy a new one?  Can I bring the battery in to get fully charged somewhere?  I'm clueless when it comes to cars so any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much,
Christina

Answer
Hi,
Sorry Christina, that battery is probably beyond recovery. You can take it back where you purchased it because you probably received some sort of month-warranty like 36 month or 60 month. The battery warranty will be pro-rated meaning that they probably won't replace it for you free, rather, you'll have to kick in a few dollars to get a new one but nowhere near what you paid for the original. Your hubby will never know the difference ;-)
On a side note, if the battery in that car died just sitting in the car, there is something wrong with the electrical system of that vehicle (providing a dome light wasn't left on) that it would discharge that battery to the point the plates went bad which is the reason the battery won't hold a new charge for more than a few minutes if at all.
Thanks for the question. I hope this information helps you.
