Car Alarms: Car Alarm, mercury villager, lincoln mercury

Question
I have a 2000 used Mercury Villager mini-van.  We purchased it from a private party.  The factory alarm worked fine for a couple of years but then started to not work at all. We installed a new alarm with a new alarm control.  However, when we did that, we still had to use the original alarm control to stop the honking. The new alarm unlocks the doors.  The old one is used to stop the honking. My question is do we have to take to a mercury dealer to re-install the old alarm and take the new alarm out? At this point, ide rather just take all the alarms out and just use the key. Is that possible? And lastly, how much for a new alarm? Thank you for your time! Tony

Answer
The "factory" alarm is disarmed either by the key as you are doing,
in the drivers door, or by a single unlock pulse using the remote.
If this is not happening, then yes, Mercury should be consulted
as to why not.

The after market alarm you had put in when unlocking the door,
should also be disarming the factory alarm as well.

& No, you really can not disable the OEM/FACTORY system in this
car any other way. It's part of the door locking system.

Car alarms start at 44.95 + s&h. Not too bad really,
but it will not correct this issue if the
lock and unlocking system is not disarming the horn
honking or headlight flashing. Again, Lincoln/Mercury/Ford
would need to see to that.
