Car Alarms: car alarm will not reset, ford escort, auto responder

Question
i brought a 99 ford escort with a keyless entry and alarm. The alarm has started to go out at first it would only disarm after I hit the arm button first then it would disarm after i hit the the button several times not it wont disarm at all. how do I disable this alarm? I check under the hood for a cut off switch only found the horn. I check under the dash but I am not sure what i am looking for. I just want to disable the alarm so i can start the car
