Car Alarms: Chapman alarms, 12 volt, apparent reason

Hello,

I have a 1987 vehicle with a (1987) chapman alarm system which includes a mechanical hood lock.  The car intermittently stops for no apparent reason and I want to remove the system to eliminate it as a possible cause.  I don't know how.  Any suggestions?
