Car Alarms: Audi A4 random Alarm going off, audi a4, car door

Hello, I have an 99 Audi a4 that randomly the alarm goes off. Also the light for the stereo remains on while this happens. You can use the remote and unlock the doors but even that doesnt disarm the security system. Its almost like the panic is being pushed since you can open the car door and do everything else without the alarm going off. It just radomly starts to honk and lights flash. I have a friend that has a 98 Audi A4 and theirs does the exact same thing. What can be done to disconnect this. We dont need an alarm system in our area anyway.
