Car Alarms: 1998 Toyota Camry Alarm, valet mode, toyota camry

Question
I need to know how to disconnect the alarm system on a 1998 Toyota Camry. The manual didn't come with the auto when she bought the car. My Mom lives on disability and they want $100.00 to replace the alarm on her key chain that is falling apart thats not counting the price they want to program it. She can't afford it and I just lost my job 2 weeks ago and can't do it for her. PLEASE help.

Answer
Well, it's after market, not factory,
so there should be a valet/override switch located
under the dash. This is actually a good thing.

To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it. To get the notes
for removing it, go to www.wirewerx.com .

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no alarm at all.
Then you can have time to get a cheaper remote from
the manufacturer when you are able.

Good luck.
