Car Alarms: Bought a used car with an audiovox app2996 transmitter, valet mode, dash area

Question
We just bought a used car and the salesman told us it has an alarm on it but they have not messed it. It has a little remote lcd thing that has a picture of a car on it. We have not touched the keypad for fear that if we do the car will go on lock down. Is there anyway to find out if the alarm still works without locking the car or making the alarm go off. The sales person said that they would not test it so they left it disarmed.

Answer
Ok, should be fairly easy. To try to disarm it,
look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

Let me know what you discover.
