Car Alarms: 2001Mercury Cougar Alarm, mercury cougar, engine immobilizer

Question
QUESTION: Hi I've read a few things about the 2001 Mercury Cougar alarms malfunctioning.  I was wondering how I can permanently disable the alarm?  I've read some things about disabling it but nothing seems to work.  Also, I was thinking that maybe the reason this maybe malfunctioning is the trunk latch.  The release from inside the car doesn't seem to work and also my remote for the car has stopped working since I bought the car.  I'm just hoping for an experts opinion on this manner.

ANSWER: Adam,
There are 2 security systems working in this car.
1 is the PATS engine immobilizer, the other is Fords
horn honking and head light flashing system.

The latter has a wire that can be grounded out to render it inert.
The fisrt one however will require you to get that remote fixed,
or to permanantly bypass it. This would require a module to do so.

My fisrt suggestion is to get the remote working.
Try the service dept at Mercury for that.

Then if you want to get rid of the security Ford set up
in this car, you can do that too. But the remote is the
control key here. Get that done first.

Good luck.

QUESTION: OK.  I was wondering what the best way would be to disable the PATS engine immobilizer.  If you could give me some specific instructions to do so I would be very appreciative.  Also, the Fords horn honking and head light flashing system needs a module to permanently bypass it?  What exactly do you mean by a module here?

Answer
Trouble here is if you do not have 2 programmed ignition
keys, the bypasses I sell would not work on this car.

Sorry for that info, but at least it's saving you some money.
You will unfortunately need to see the service dept at Mercury/Ford
to have them re sync the remotes and or replace them as
well as resetting the PATS.

Wish I had better news for ya.
