Question
Chevy Malibu 2000.I have a vss system.i have
intermittent problems starting it .I turn the key and nothing{wont crank over} after playing with it I get it to start (that includes turning the alarm on and off }.I have a gut feeling it’s the alarm system. But one day it would not start so a tow truck driver came and he manually locked the door with the key opened it with the key .then he turned the key in the on position hit the small override button and it started .WHYYYYYYYYYYYY did that work .I tried the override but did not close and open the door manually. Please help me identify my problem. This happens about once a month……………Thank you

Answer
k calm down. Take a deep breath and try this spin....
From your description, there are 3 "security" systems
at play here Mr. P.

The first 2 are the horn honking
and head light flashing GM standard alarm.
This is controlled by the door lock cylander
and the remote.
&
The PASSLOCK 2 system is the immobilizer fuel rail
shut off system, and is contolled like the other,
as well as in the ignition switch column.

All that is standard GM. Then you threw in
the "BUTTON" deal. This tells me that someone also
installed and after market system with a starter kill
relay installed. This is redundent, but not unusual.
To go into valet overide:

KEY ON, PRESS IN THAT BUTTON YOU DISCUSSED FOR UP TO
8 SECONDS UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE. MAYBE A CHIRP OR 2.

This also gets you out of valet as well.

The trick is the make sure they all work in unison.

You can take it to a local tech shop for
an evaluation to learn what you have exactly for the best
over all experience, but of course, your call.

I hope this helped some.
