Car Alarms: 2001 Nissan Altima Car Alarm Malfunction, nissan altima, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have the factory installed security system and remote controls.  My car alarm starting going off randomly at first and got progressively worse and now I've had to take the batteries out of the remotes to get it to stop.  I tried replacing the batteries on the remotes hoping that was the issue but no good, within about half hour of replacing the alarm started going off again.  I would really like to have my remotes working again, is the only solution to take it to the factory and get new remotes and have it re-programmed?  Thank you in advance for any help you can offer here!

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: Sorry, when I said factory installed alarm I thought i was being specific enough but yes, it's the original Factory installed alarm and all that you describe for that scenerio is correct.  Thanks!

Answer
ok, not a problem.

The 2 choices are replacing the transmitters,
however, no guaranty that is the trouble
here.

Or, disable the factory alarm from ever
arming again.

Get out some basic install tools or get
a friend or a good technician
in there to do this.

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. Yours was reset.
Try key in the drivers door, turn left, then
right to diasrm and unlock. If no joy,
you can disable it for good by doing the
following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
orange/blue |-| on pin 30 at the SECU.
|- negative polarity|. The SECU
(Smart Entrance Control Unit)
is located to the passengers side
of the steering column.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the OEM alarm functions entirely.

Your call of course, but if it's really expensive
at Nissan to repair it, then I'd take it out
of the equation, and put in
an after market system that does a better
job.
