Car Alarms: Advice for a mom?, chevy tahoe, stereo subs

Question
My teenage son just got this fancy new stereo system installed in his 2002 Chevy Tahoe and we are wondering what kind of alarm he should have installed to protect his new system.  The place where he had his stereo, subs, etc installed is saying a Python (costs around $500) and I'm thinking that is way over doing it.
Do you have any suggestions or is this what he really needs?  His stereo costs around $3,500 I think and his Tahoe is in mint condition.  We live in a low crime area but you can never be too safe.  Thanks and I look forward to hearing your suggestions.
