Car Alarms: 2004 Kia Spectra, car alarm system, 2004 kia spectra

Question
QUESTION: I have an after market car alarm system.  How do I disarm it?  Thanks for your answer.

ANSWER: In case this was asked at the other site, it's the same answer:

You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

But if it does work, I'd keep it this way, and
replace the alarm asap with one you know and
understand how it operates for the best overall
experience.

Let me know if it works for yours.

QUESTION: I followed your directions as closely as I could and it did not work.  I found the button (not a toggle switch) you mentioned behind the RED LED.

I set the alarm by pushing the REMOTE LOCK button on the REMOTE key entry (or, actually, it can set itself if you get out of the car and wait about 10 seconds and at that point it indicates so when it locks ALL doors and flashes the parking lights.  The red LED light starts blinking).

The question may be "How is the alarm supposed to work without going off almost every time I open the door?" Another question is - "Is the trick to either make the LED to go SOLID or go OFF?" or is the statement "If the LED is off the alarm is not armed." true?

Answer
Not certain what the procedure on yours, but the unlocking
of the doors remotely should disarm the system.
If it was not installed right, then it can
go off when it looks disarmed.

If this is not happening, you would need
to inspect the wiring done to determine why,
and repair it.

If the LED is "OFF" this usually does mean disarmed.
Without seeing what you have and how it is installed
is problematic for me.

Use the remote to identify the alarm, and then
you can try to locate the manual for the alarm
you have, and then affect repairs. Try www.keynfob.com
to find out what you have.
