Car Alarms: My 97 catera, cadillac catera, pass key

Question
I have a cadillac catera and the front lock would not open with the key (the keyless remote is not working) and my husband got a little bit impatient as he is in the military and was running late and all his equipment was in the trunk so he broke the small back window out and unlocked and opened the back door. Yeah us!!! The alarm would not stop going as the key would not work in the door. I fixed that and the key got the alarm to stop, now the car won't start at all. The key won't even turn in the ignition. Help!!!! I am stuck as my husband is gone for a week.

Answer
:>( not good.
This vehicle is equipped with the pass-key III
immobilizer & from your desription and the
make/model/year of the car you have there,
it appears you've reset the PASSKEY system
totally.

The car's security immobilizer
reader at the key switch
does not recognise the coded
chip in the ignition key any longer.

It's gotten bad enough now,
to lock you out of the ignition
all together. This makes it bad for me
to advise or circumvent electronically
because it's now not only an electrical issue,
it's mechanical as well.

Unfortunately you will need to tow it to any
GM/Cadilac vehicle dealer
to have the service department re code/reset
it.

Sorry, I wish it was something I could talk
you through, but not in this particular
situation.

I wish you the best of luck with it.
