Car Alarms: Chapman Keyless door entry and start up, gm passlock, keyless door entry

Question
QUESTION: I had no problems unlocking my car door on my 1995 Saturn and starting it.  When I lieft the destination I was in the keyless door entry chapman security alarm di not unlock the doors.  So, I used the key.  Then when I went to start the car up, the car turned over like it was going to start but, it died.  Do you think it could be the alarm itself.  I tried recharging the battery in the car.  Put a new battery in the remote and nothing happened.  Checked the wiring and that sems to be okay.  I tried to set the security alarm but, it only clicked and didn't lock the doors like it was suppose too.  Please let me know what ideas you have????

ANSWER: No if it was the car alarm (chapman) it would simply
not even attempt to start, nosounf, nada.
And according to my current notes, that car
does have a passlock III security system on it.

So, my first guess is that the car may
be in passlock down.

that says the passlock has been put into long tamper mode,
the vehicle thinks someone is trying to start the car with
the incorrect key.

If there is no aftermarket remote start in the vehicle,
then I would suggest taking it to the dealership for repair.

If there is an aftermarket remote start, then whatever method
that was used to bypass the passlock is malfunctioning.

The reaction you are having IS
due to the GM PASSLOCK II system being breached & activated
or, it is malfunctioning. In either case, this is
what (in this car) is troubling you. The trouble
though is that the local mechanic at
the gas station can't help here.

Sorry, but the passlock is GM's way
of getting you coming and going.

There is no outside method other then circumventing
it momentarilly to allow remote start, which won't
fix your troubles.

Nope, this is a GM issue and has to be corrected there,
or an outside shop will charge you bukoo bucks
to replace the whole VATS. (VERY PRICEY $$$$!)

Sorry wish I could be more help, but if it's
intermittent now, then it needs they're technician,
they're factory computer diagnostics to fix it.

There will be a fee involved to reset it, but much less
then replacing the entire VATS-Passlock system.

If you do find another fix, let us all know.
This is NOT uncommon. It is GM's way of keeping
it all inhouse, security wise.

Let us know what you find out.

QUESTION: I was talking with Saturn this afternoon and they said there is no passlock system?  Then what else could it be???

Answer
Ok, let's prove that.
Look at the key.
Is there a visable chip in the metal?

If not it may be in the black part.
Go to the local hardware store and
get a spare made, then try to start the car
and can't. then it's likely my notes are correct.
If the answers are yes to these questions,
you do indeed have a PASSLOCK system

Please tell me the model of saturn?

A.
