Car Alarms: 1998 Grand caravan Security system, valet mode, caravan security

I recently purchased the van used. After you shut off the ignition the security system will automatically arm itself and lock everything, except the two front doors.  Because they are not locked, if you open a front door the horn blows and the lights flash until you press the unlock button on keyless entry. If you press the keyless entry before opening the door it will de-activate the system - but only for 5 minutes, after that it resets itself. Left alone the car makes a clicking sound every few minutes - like the doors re-locking.

Then from the sounds of it, the aftermarket alarm
requires a new installer to re do the front
door locks. The cars own OEM system depends
on the physical motion of locking and unlocking
to do it's disarm it.

From your description, the next installer
needs to finish the job, or simply
put the alarm into Valet mode (see prior posts)
and leave it that way.

That's my take on it.
