Car Alarms: Python 1400xp, time jeff, python 1400xp

Question
I recently had a Python installed at Circuit City.  When I got home I realized that the defroster output didn't work.  I was told by Circuit City that this would cost $50 extra.  Everything I've read on the box, on CC's web site as well as the manufacture's web site, indicate that this feature is included.  Do you think it should be?  If it requires extra parts, what parts?  Is this something I could do myself?  If so, how?  Thank you for your time.  Jeff

Answer
Although I normally love to bash the big box stores, unfortunately that is not a standard option.  I know that DEI (the company that makes your Python) lists it in all of their manuals that the rear defrost is an option.  I wish they would not list it like they do because on some vehicles the wire used to activate this output has to be programmed to operate a secondary bypass module...eliminating it all together as an option.

It is written in a way that makes it seem like a standard option, but I never hook it up.  I know of no install shop that hooks it up by default.  The rear defrost in my opinion should not even be listed as an option.  Some cars require substantially more labor and materials to activate the rear defrost.  Some cars are very simple to do it.

If they are telling you it is an extra $50, that is a fair price.  I do not know what make and model your vehicle is, hooking up the rear defrost requires a different amount of parts/labor for different vehicles.
