Car Alarms: black widow remote low range, antenna wire, dodge durango

Question
Hello, I bought this 99 Dodge Durango 9 months ago and it has a black widow 5 button remote starter for it. But to make it work I need to stand about 10 feet away from the truck to start my engine. I changed battery in the transmiter with no luck. Do I need to get a raplacement one or what's the problem. Thanks for your help. Ron t.

Answer
Poor range is can normally be contributed to a couple of things, the first is a weak battery, which you have already addressed.  The second is system ground, make sure the ground for the unit is not to a factory bolt, but to a clean paint and primer free piece of metal in the kick panel.  The third thing I have seen installers do that kills range is coil up excess antenna wire, take a look and if it is coiled, stretch it out as straight as you can.
