Car Alarms: how to dissconnect car alarm system, car alarm system, starter wire

Question
My daughter's remote does not work
and cannot purchase another.  Alarm
is not factory.  Need to know how to
disconnect this thing in order to start
the car.

Answer
First, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

Then, take down the dash panel under the steering wheel.  Most aftermarket alarms are wired in a normally closed configuration, meaning if you find the fuses that are supplying the alarm brain and pull them you should be able to start the vehicle.  If you cannot, it was wired in a normally open configuration and you would have to find the relay that was installed.  Once you find this relay, just disconnect it and reconnect the factory starter wire.  You should pull the fuses from the system in any case.
