Car Alarms: 1997 Honda Civic Factory alarm, valet mode, brain box

Question
I have not been able to get the alarm to disarm using the methods noted (I have not tried to find the brain and disconnect yet).

Any other ideas?

-----Question-----
We have a 1997 Civic which I disconnected the battery for some maintenance recently and when I try to reconnect, the alarm sounds and I cannot reset it.  Additional problem, for a long time now we had it in valet mode and have lost the remote.

Any way of resetting and/or disabling the alarm permanently as we do not use it any longer?
-----Answer-----
I think you need to get it back into valet
to start with. Try this:
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

At this point, get yourself a 10mm ratchet
and and extender, remove the under panel and metal
knee cage from under the steering column.

Once done, locate the brain box for the
aftermarket system, and unplug it.

That will solve this issue. But I would
relplace it with one you understand and
have fresh remotes for, since this vehicle
is on the top of the hit list for car thefts.
(Would take me less then 30 seconds to take it.)

Let me know if I can
outfit you with a replacement
from my stores. Big pre Christmas sale
going on right now.

Good luck with it.

Answer
Nope not really. There is no factory alarm,
so the aftermarket alarm does exsist,
and is probably where I mentioned it to be
in the last letter.

If you can not locate it, then take it to the local
shop so they can do this for you.

That is the best suggestion at this point I think.

Good luck with it.
