Car Alarms: alarm malfunction, alarmtek, buick century

Question
Hi,

I have a 2003 Buick Century that started today to sound off its alarm several times and most recently at 3:45am this morning.  It is the factory installed system that is activated when hitting the "panic" button on the remote to lock or unlock the car.

It started after I had accidently fell into the water while canoing and had both sets of keys with their remotes in my pocket.  Could this have something to do with the car's alarm spontaneously going off since?

Sometimes the remote works to reset it and other times I have to start the ignition in order for the honking to stop.  How do I correct this?

Thanks.

David

Answer
David, try this:

Unscrew the backs, and remove the
batteries from the 2 remotes.
Then watch the responce for 24 hours.
If nothing, then you will need to go to
GM for replacements.

You can open up the remotes completely and attempt to
dry them out completely so we can discount water,
and then see if they are usable again, but for now,
to get some sleep and determine the trouble, remove
the batts. and then act accordingly once you see that
the remotes are sending a signal occasionally,
triggering the factory alarm.

Tell me what you find.

Good luck on this.
