I bought a 97 Ford Expl used that has a Chapman car alarm installed. It has gone into some high alert mode and has locked the car down so it won't start. The key fob won't engage and if the key is in the ignition it goes off non stop. I have tried to do the insert key into ignition, turn and push the white button down until the LED stops blinking but it is not working. The white button doesn't seem to push in much if at all? There is a clicking noise on the black box device that appears to be counting until the alarm goes off again. If I take the key out of the ignition the the alarm is quiet after the last cycle. But if the door is opened etc it starts again. The key fob was working momentarily after we left the car alone overnight but then we set it off again too many times and now it won't work again. Do I need to wait until the key fob will engage again to try to disarm using the valet mode? Oh and at one point the car alarm was going off non stop and all of the door locks were engaging back and forth. HELP!
Answer -
What happened here is it's an older alarm,
and also obviously equipped with a starter
disable relay inline.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in opposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart for
the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until it's safely removed.

If it does not work out this way, you will have
to replace the system with one you know how
to operate and what to expect.

Let me know what happens.

Hi again,

Is the valet button the small white plastic thing on the black box with the blinking LED light or is it somewhere else?  Because the white button doesn't seem to move that much and I have tried to depress it until the light stops blinking but it isn't working.

Answer
Not certain, but most of the valet switches would be
found UNDER the dash area, possibly to the left knee area.

key on, press and hold valet button
until light comes on. If toggle type,
key on, flip switch in opposite direction.

If no switch present, you will need to
unplug the brain box from it's
power harnesses so you can go back
to pre installed condition.
Then deffinately replace it.
