Car Alarms: Ford explorer factory alarm, ford explorer xlt, purple wire

Question
-You have been helpful and I found the green purple wire. Do you know what it comes from and where it goes? I plan to tap it and ground it but am not sure I am not suppose to cut and ground one end. Will the short overheat something in some unknown module is my concern. I will measure current in the short to check but if you know some of the internal electrobnics that would help too. Thanks for your time so far; this really helps. ------------------------

Question -
The alarm is factory installed. I could care less about the alarm working properly. To me it is a headache.(Yea the horn, lights blink etc.) It sounds like the solution is to find this green purple wire and ground it.

However if just turning the key left when I leave the car would do the job that is also a solution. I don't think I am getting this right though since that is normal key lock procedure. Do you mean this as a way to turn off the alarm once it triggers or as a way to prevent it from arming? When I try it I don't know how to confirm that the alarm system is defeated. This is green/purple wire is a big help so far though!

Question -
My 98 ford explorer xlt alarm has triggered about 5minutes after lock up for no reason twice in 2 months. I was lucky to be close enough to run back. Remote entry works fine. I cannot find the sensors to check out. Where are they? How do I disable the alarm system permanantly?I cannot repeat the problem at home after many tries and freezing the remote entry can in the jack hole. Where is the alarm module anyway? Chiltons is no help. I am original owner no previous problem.
Answer -
That system is speratic. It's also exceedingly
difficult to actually set it off. If we
are talking about the OEM noise generator
(car horn) and headlight flashing system,
then you can disable it by turning the key
in the drivers door to the left all the way,
until it stops reacting. But you can not
modify or add to this system in any
way unfortunately. You would need to disable it.

The module you are looking for is actually in
the drivers side door, but can be disarmed
pemanantly by grounding the dark green/purple
wire in the drivers side kick panel wire pack,
directly to the chassis.

That would of course leave you vulnerable to
break in of course, but to tell you the truth,
the Ford "deterent" really does not do much anyway.

If however it's and aftermarket alarm that was
installed at the dealership, then it's another
story. These usually would have a siren,
LED in the dash, and a valet overide switch
under the dashboard. Also, only the parking
lights would flash instead of the headlights.

This then would be a diffent situation that would need
more "exploration" (pardon the pun.)

Which one applies here for your's?

Let me know which and I will
try to help some more.

Answer -
You are correct. It only will disable it that way
if the deterent system is triggered.
I say ground it, and be happy.

Good luck with it
and if you decide to enhance it
using an aftermarket system, I'd like
a chance to get you outfitted with
the proper system.

Answer
No simply splice a wire into it and ground
it. I do not know alot about the electronics,
but as I said, the wire comes in from the
drivers door, into the kick panel.
Just ground it and it will not engage again.

Don't over think it. You just want
to take it out of the equation.

have a good eve.
