Car Stereos: Amp installation using factory amplifier, new taurus, ford taurus

Question
I am installing a sub/amp combination in my 2003 Ford Taurus.

I was wondering if there was an alternate location to hook up the remote wire from the amp to, besides the harness connected to the factory radio. I have read that there is a tuner in the trunk of the 2003 Ford Taurus but would any of these wire connections be suitable for my needs?

Also, I am using a high level input for my amp due to the fact that factory stereos do not have RCA outputs. Would connecting in these wires with those of the two rear speakers be the best idea or is there a spot on the tuner that I can use.

Thank you for taking time to read my question and I am looking forward to your suggestions.

Answer
Hi Brian,

I haven't had any personal experience with the new Taurus (I'm Canadian, and finding a Taurus of that model year here is nigh impossible.)

Anyway, if you have a factory amplifier, there will be a wire in it somewhere that provides it the equivalent functionality of a remote wire on an aftermarket deck.

With a multimeter, find a wire that goes into the factory amp that has 12V power when the stereo is on, but 0V when it's off.  Tap it and use it as a remote.

Alternatively, you say you're using a high level input -- if you weren't planning it already, use a line level converter instead which will convert the high level signal to a low level one, and provide you with a remote wire to use instead.

I usually tap the speaker wire in the loom before it goes into the door so it stays in the car.  You want a wire carrying a high level signal to be as short as possible, since high level signals are more susceptible to interference noise.
