Car Stereos: 98 Buick Lesabre Mounting Depth, cavity wall, buick lesabre

Question
You mentioned in another post about mounting depth problems with the '98 Buick Lesabre.  Crutchfield says there is only 6.3125" of room in the car radio cavity.  My question is if I choose a car stereo that is deeper than that (and most are) can I just take a vibrating saw and carefully cut the back of the box out without damaging anything behind the stereo cavity?  Thanks again!!!

Answer
Hi Doug,

It's been a while since I've replaced the head unit in a LeSabre, but I don't recall having any major issues with mounting depth.  Depending on the kit you use, there are some mounting tricks that can let you save some space.  As long as you know what you're cutting, there's no problems with making more space at the rear of the radio cavity; I prefer to use a Dremel, myself.  In most cases, the rear cavity wall is only partial, and you can tell what's on the other side without too much trouble.

Hope this helps!
