Car Stereos: Soundstream reference amp, avoidable mistake, stereo repair

Question
I have a Soundstream reference 405 I just removed the old board that was burnt I had been told. so I put a new board in the polymide paper or whatever it is was still intact and in good repair so I didn't replace that. but now my question is do I need to use heat sink compound now on the back patruding pieces? I have been told by a tv and stereo repair tech that I didn't need it and it would be better if I didnt use any. is this true? I have spent a couple hundred in getting to this point and do not want to blow this because of a simple avoidable mistake. I thank you for your time and eagerly await a reply...

Answer
Hi,

Generally, there's no harm in it, and you'd be better off.  It wouldn't be better if you didn't.  Just make sure you only put a little bit on, and that you make it nice and even; if you put too much on, or don't spread it evenly, you get high and low points that can be bad for the hardware.

Just a little bit would help.
