Car Stereos: subwoofers, oem boston, sony xplod

Question
i have two 12 inch sony xplod 1300 watts. is there a way that i can hook these subs up to my factory boston acoustics amp. i have a dodge charger. i know these arent that good of subwoofers but i feel they could run off my factory amp. also would it be possible to unhook the rear speakers and use the output that i unhooked the rear speakers from to hook up my subs. thank you for answering my question

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.  You can safely connect the subs to the rear speaker outputs (after disconnecting the stock speakers) but I'm doubtful that you'll get very good results.  Subwoofers rarely sound very good using a full-range audio signal, and even the OEM Boston Acoustics amplifier doesn't really have enough power to drive 12" subwoofers effectively.  Remember that you'll need to install the subs into an enclosure; don't just run them without putting them in a box.

You're not likely to damage anything by trying it, as long as you don't try to run the factory speakers and the subs from the same outputs.

Hope this helps!
