Car Stereos: kenwood deck, factory speakers, old radio

Question
QUESTION: i just put in a kenwood deck in my car and cant get any bass out a it, i have been over the manual a hundred times just cant figure it out please help me

ANSWER: Joe, Did your last radio have good bass?  If so, then you should be able to find the tone controls on your new radio; like Bass, treble, balance, fader, etc.  If your old radio didn't have any bass either, you do not have the proper speakers to create good bass.  First, you must have good aftermarket woofers and tweeters.  Then, if that is not bassy enough for you, you will need a subwoofer and a sub amplifier to create additional bass that you will hear very easily.  Either way, you should be able to fix the problem fairly easily.  Also, there may be a really far off chance that your speakers are wired up out of phase.  If you have exhausted the other two options, and you are still experiencing little to no bass, you may have a speaker wired with the positive hooked to the negative and vice versa.  It is not very common for this to happen on factory speakers, so I warn against making any changes prematurely.  If it is suspected, just rewire one of the speakers switching the positive and negative wires.  If it is the problem, the result will be very noticable.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: yes my stock jbl had a very nice sounding bass out put but this kenwood sounds jus like a lil pop everytime a bass beat hits idk i jus cant figure it out!!

Answer
Joe, The problem may not lie with the headunit, but the car.  If your stock JBL stereo had good bass, and the aftermarket Kenwood does not, there is probably a problem.  I would say the problem is that there is a factory amplifier somewhere that is not getting hooked up correctly with the aftermarket wiring harness.  With out the proper harness adapters and amp jumpers, the systems will not work properly.  I would suggest going to Crutchfield.com and call their 800 number and ask them what harness adapters you need for your car to work correctly.  Hope this helps, Scott
