Car Stereos: 98 jeep inifity power amp, channel amplifier, wire colors

Question
I have a 1998 jeep grand stereo infinity 4 channel. it has steering wheel channel and volume. The power amp is shot. To replace the power amp I'll need a harness kit ..But I can't find one for that series..I checked several companies no luck so far..

Answer
Hi Bill,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.

A wiring harness makes installing after-market equipment easier, but the lack of a harness doesn't make it impossible.  If necessary, you can just connect the wires directly without an adapter harness.

I'm not sure whether you're hoping to install an after-market 4-channel amplifier to replace the stock Infinity amp, or whether you want to use a replacement stock amplifier.  You should be able to find a replacement amp on e-Bay or through a used parts dealer; if you can find one, you can just plug it in.  An after-market amplifier would be slightly more difficult, but it could be done; it's easier if the amplifier has a high-level input feature.  Unlike some OEM premium systems, the output from the stock head unit in your Jeep is high-level; in fact, it would be possible to bypass the amp and run the speakers directly from the stock head unit if you wished (though the sound quality would probably be reduced somewhat).

If you have an amp picked out, let me know what you have and I can give you specific installation instructions (including the factory wire colors).

Hope this helps!

Brian
