Car Stereos: Stock head unit on cadillac fleetwood, kenwood amp, cadillac fleetwood

Question
i am trying to sell my subs and amp and the potential buyer asked me if it is possible for him to hook them up to his stock head unit on a Cadillac fleetwood. it shouldnt matter, but they are kicker cvr subs and a kenwood amp.

Answer
Hi Ryan,

It's always possible to connect an amplifier to a stock head unit, but you might need to buy an adapter.  The factory radio will not have RCA output jacks like an after-market head unit.  If the Kenwood amp has a high-level input feature, then you can connect it directly to the factory speaker wires.  Most Kenwood amps have this feature, but you might be missing the high-level input plug.  It usually looks like a small, square plastic plug with several wires coming from it.

If the amp has a high-level input, and you have all the original parts, then the amp can be connected directly to the stock head unit using the factory speaker wires.  If it doesn't have the high-level inputs, or you don't have the plug, then he'll need a device called a line output converter.  This is available at any store that sells car audio equipment.

Hope this helps!
