Car Stereos: do i need same brand?, pioneer radio, old pioneer

Question
I'm buying a car and the seller is taking his old pioneer radio out but leaving the wire harness and all that hooked up,now when I go buy a new radio to go with the harness do I have to buy pioneer or can I get another brand.. The seller said I have to get pioneer but I thought any radio would go to the harness. Help please!!

Answer
Amy,  If he took his radio, he surely took the part of the connector that connects to that radio.  The connector that is left in there, is your car's connector.  When you buy a new stereo (of any brand), you will get a connector with the new radio.  You will have to buy a wire harness adapter that wires to your radio's wire harness and connects to the car connector.  Hope this helps, Scott
