Car Stereos: rear speakers wont work, hook ups, size speakers

Question
Hey man, I hope your the one. I have a 1998 Ram pick-up. Had no stereo to boot. I got a stock stereo and after market speakers. I had to change the speaker hook-ups. Front works great. Rear not at all. I know the speaker are good. They are from my last car. Could it be that the front speakers from my car, will fit the rear in my truck, low watts maybe?

Answer
Eric, if you are looking for fitment advice, i would suggest going to crutchfield.com to see what size speakers fit in your truck.  If your question is just about power handling and compatibility, most car speakers are compatible with most car stereos.  If the rear speakers are not making any noise, there may be one of two problems.  Either the stereo rear channel is broke or not set right, or the wires going to the rear speakers have a break in them somewhere.  My guess is the radio is bad, and it needs to be repaired.  To test this, you can hook up different speakers in the rear.  If that doesn't work, you can hook up speakers directly to the output wires of the stereo.  That will tell you for sure.  Hope this helps, Scott
