Question
QUESTION: Recently my radio started cutting out on me.  If I turn the ignition into the on position the radio comes on, then after maybe a few minutes or less it will just shut off.  The display still shows that it should be operating, just no sound.  It will do this once the ignition has been turned over also.  What could the problem be?  If it is an amplifier issue where is the amp located?

ANSWER: Jason,  This is a very common problem with early 21st century GM trucks.  It is a problem with the headunit itself, and it will have to be removed and repaired to resolve the problem.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Which headunit are you referring to?  I actually replaced the radio with a factory radio out of a 2006 Chevy and am having the same problem.

Answer
So, you are experiencing the same problem with both headunits?  If so, then it sounds like a short somewhere in the speaker wires.  Usually, this short is in the doorjams, because that is where most of the movement occurs.  Check your speaker wires around the drivers side, then on passenger side.  You will probably find a bare wire somewhere.  Just repair it, and your problem should be fixed.  If you are experiencing different problems with each headunit, then the problem may still be the headunits.  Let me know, if this does not fix your problem.  Good Luck, Scott
