Car Stereos: subwoofer wiring, mtx amp, ohm subs

Question
I have 2 15" kicker L7 subs and they are dvc 2 ohm subs. I jus bought a
1500w mono mtx amp which is 2 ohm. What is the best way to wire the
system? Thanks

Answer
Hi CJ,

The best way to wire the two subs is to wire each sub's voice coils in series, then wire the subs to the amp in parallel.  This will result in a final impedance of 2 ohms at the amplifier.

To do this, wire the (+) terminal of the amp to the (+) terminal on voice coil #1, and wire the (-) terminal of the amp to the (-) terminal on voice coil #2.  Connect another wire between the unused terminals on each voice coil.  Do this for each sub.  That means that each speaker terminal on the amp will have two wires connected; one for each sub.

Some mono amps have two sets of speaker terminals.  In this case, just use one set for each sub.  They're connected internally, so it's the same as connecting both wires to a single terminal.

Here's a graphic that shows how to do it, courtesy of JL Audio:

Good luck!
