Car Stereos: Kenwood Stereo, little fuse, speaker wires

Question
QUESTION: I recently wired a Kenwood deck into my Sunfire which has had another aftermarket deck in it before so the chime is already worked around, the wiring all looks right to me and the power to the deck is on.  It takes and ejects CD's but no other lights will come on the face plate and no sound will come out.  I have tried to replace the fuses but they all look good and I have also tried just resetting the deck.  I'm out of ideas.
ANSWER: Did you use an aftermarket wire harness to plug into the factory harness or did you cut the factory harness off and wire directly into the wires?  Let me know.

Thanks!

Dave

QUESTION: Hey Dave, I bought an aftermarket wire harness for it.

Mark.
ANSWER: Hi Mark

Sounds like this could be a few things.  You said you checked the fuses, did you check the little fuse on the back of the radio?  Also, I would check to make sure the speaker wires are properly connected.  This can happen sometimes if the speaker wires are mixed up, for instance if you have two positive wires connected from two different speakers.  If you're 100% sure that the wires and fuses check out, then I'd have to say theres either an internal problem with the radio, or the contacts on the faceplate aren't connecting properly.

Let me know

Thanks

Dave

QUESTION: Yeah I checked the fuse in the actual deck and I just checked the speaker wires, so basically the decks done then?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Yeah my friend, I have a feeling the radio is done with.  You can try to get it repaired.  It might be something simple like a contact, or it could be something serious like the main board.  Only a tech can tell you.  Depending on how much the radio cost, it might not be worth it to fix it.
