Auto Racing: Upgrading my car, sport compact magazine, subaru forrester

I dont know if i am asking the right question, but i am wondering where to start if i want to start modifying my stock Subaru forrester 2004 with any kind of performance parts available. When i am looking at parts i dont know what they do specifically so i was looking for some advice. If you could help me out either with your own opinion or refer me to another questionare or website, i would very much appreciate it. Thank you sir.

HI Drew:

There are a few things I can recommend that won't break the bank, and are easy to accomplish.

First try to find a K & N fuel injection performance kit for your car.  K & N have a website though I don't keep a record of it.   

After that, get a copy of Sport Compact magazine and look at a few ads.  You will want to reeplace your exhaust system with a performance version. An exhaust header will help a lot.

Finally, it's possible somebody makes a performance computer chip for your ECU which will serve to wake it up a bit more.  

And finally, look around for ways to recuce your vehicle weight. It's amazing what you can find when you start loking.   If you can reduce the weight by 100 pounds you will feel the difference  !!
