Question -
Who were the first owners of a F3000 Reynard 92D with chassis number 011. What series did it first compete in and where? We ran this car this year in F4000 (Australia)
Answer -
Thank you John for your question.
Being such a specific one, I would have thought that a call to Reynard would be your best bet, as it'd be quite a time-consuming job to track this information down through researching public information (chassis numbers are not usually published with race results). Most race car manufacturers keep a list of what happened to each new chassis, so I would have thought they's be able to answer you quite easily. Their number is +44 (for the UK), (0)1280 846800.
Good luck,
Adam

Thanks Adam,

Only problem is that Reynard no longer exists (remember BAR ?). I rang the number but it was a message retreval system. Anywhere else I can try ?
Cheers,
John

Answer
Hi John and thanks - I'd forgotton about Reynard. Anyway, I've done some digging and (sort of) have your answer.

Reynard's 92D was built for the 1992 F3000 Championship. At the first round, Silverstone on May 10 1992, there were 19 entrants with a 92D, so presumably, one of these was your car - but which one is another question. Of the 19 entries these came from 11 different teams, which maybe helps to narrow the search - some are still in business and so could be contacted to find out if they have a record of which chassis number they ran. The teams were:

Pacific (Jordi Gene, Laurent Aiello). Competed 1987-1997

Il Barone Rampante (Rubens Barrichello, Fabiano Vandone, Andrea Montermini). Competed 1991-1993

Crypton (Luca Badoer, Michael Bartels). Competed 1990-1993

Forti Corse (Emanuele Naspetti, Alessandro Zampedri). Competed 1987-1994

Paul Stewart Racing (David Coulthard, Paul Stewart). Competed 1990-1995

Piquet Racing (Oliver Beretta). Competed 1992

COBRA Motorsport (Paolo della Piane). Competed 1987-93

Vortex (Phil Andrews, Giuseppe Bugatti). Competed 1991-95

3001 International (Allan McNish, Hideki Noda). Competed 1992-92

Advance Racing (Vittoria Zoboli). Competed 1992

Superpower (Steve Robertson). Competed 1990 and 1992.

Most of the teams don't exist anymore, or have been merged into others. There are four routes I think you could explore further:

1. The FIA. They will have the technical entry documents for the 1992 F3000 season which should say which chassis number was scrutineered or entered. You can get their contact details from http://www.fia.com/index_1024.html

2. Try and contact representatives of the original 11 teams to see if they can help you. It won't be quick or easy, but the folks are still around in motor racing circles and could point you in the right direction.

3. Contact the BRDC at Silverstone who will have been officiating at that first round. They may have an archive which contains your information. +44 1327 850920 or http://www.brdc.co.uk/

4. The following may be helpful.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific for you John, but your answer is in here somewhere!

Adam
