NASCAR Racing: auto roof, roof hatch, car wrecks

Question
on the top right  of center on the roof of the NASCARS there is a small cube  or box what is it for? thank you Marian

Answer
Hi Marian,

I'm not too sure about what exactly you are talking about, but i'll give you 3 thing that are on the roof of a race car.

1)  There is the black box that has the camera for the television inside.  But it is normally in the front middle-ish of the roof.

2) Roof flaps.  These prevent the car from coming off of the ground in the event of the car getting turned around and all the air coming under the rear of the car. There are two of these on either side of the roof.

3) This is the one I think you are talking about the most.  The Roof Hatch is a single square flap right above where the driver sits.  It is for an event to where escape through the window is impossible.  For example, if a car wrecks and has a car beside him, and the other side against the wall, the driver would use the roof hatch to get out of the car.

Hope i helped.
