NASCAR Racing: lugnuts, pit road, mishap

Question
My question is how often do the pit guys get hit with flying lugnuts when the car leaves the pit?

Answer
Hi James,

Theoretically, they aren't supposed to be hit at all.  The car does not move during the stop, the lugnuts fly off the tire. so if he has a clear opening, they will go straight out and merge with any traffic.  But if the pit in front of them has a car parked in it, they have to make a sharp right turn out of the pits and I guess they might get hit by a few flyers.  But they get back over the wall quickly for fear of another mishap with a car hitting them on pit road.
Hope I helped
