BMW Repair: 318 motor swap, engine swaps, euro tuner

Question
I'm thinking about buying this 93 318is and the motor has about 130k on it. everything else on the car is in great shape just a little rust(to be expected for a 93 in Wisconsin)i was wondering what engines i could shove in there. i would like to put an M3 in it but would all the electronics match up???if this is not possible at all what would you recommend???I'm looking for a car that i can work on and hopefully turn into a classy looking Euro tuner. any help and info is greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer
Engine swaps in newer BMW's (even '93's) are major projects, due primarily to the engine controls.

I would go with "adders" rather than an engine swap:  Look into turbos (or better for this engine...superchargers), etc.

Lots of things out there to boost it.

If you haven't bought it yet, think about what you really want.  The 318 is a light, toss-around, fun e36.  The 325 version of the same era is a lot more power, but heavier, and has a different feel.

Maybe check www.roadfly.com for inputs from others used to tuning these.
