BMW Repair: E39 electrical problem, bmw e39, electrical portion

Question
Hi

We have a BMW E39 1999 528i
My wife went to drive the car and found that the speedometer and and mileage counter were not working, so we left the car overnight and it was working again,  a few weeks past with no problems then the steering wheel controls all went down so we had no horn ,cruise control , or stereo functions...the next day I was driving along with the stereo on when my wife pulled down the passenger visor to look in the mirror which caused the stereo to stop working which comes back on when the car is restarted but goes off again if you use the mirrors in the both the visors.. Any help would be much  appreciated

Answer
John please have the electrical portion of the ignition switch replaced. If you were to draw a line from the ignition key tumbler through the column it would be on the opposite side of the tumbler/key hole. Unbolts with two little painted over screws after removing all the column covers and the steering wheel and airbag.
